PNG National Assembly of Disabled People is the DPO of Papua New Guinea - read all about the organisation and people



PNG Assembly Of Disabled Persons, the national disabled persons’ organization for Papua New Guinea formed in 2002. Its primary focus is advocacy and promotion of the rights of disabled people with disabilities and their inclusion in all aspects of Papua New Guinea life.

Our constituted objectives are:
a) To promote the welfare of people with disabilities by organizing, providing and promoting appropriate activities and services, which will enhance their rehabilitation well being and status.
b) To promote public awareness and support for over-coming the problems encountered by people with disabilities with the aim of obtaining equal rights and opportunities to those enjoyed by able-bodied people.
c) To advocate for, and present the needs, concerns and aspirations of people with disabilities to agencies and authorities that can influence legislation.
d) To encourage the establishment, empowerment and self-determination of branches of the Association in any part of PNG wherever such branches may assist people with disabilities.

UPDATE ON ACTIVITIES(July 24th 2009) - Thanks to PDF for this information

1. 8-12 June – strategic planning workshop held in Goroka Eastern Highlands Province, with over 50 participants attending

2. 25 June – official launching of the PNG Policy on Disability where the National Coordinating Committee on Disability including the NADP chairperson were recognized. Official swearing in ceremony is still being planned.

3. 4-5 July – PNGADP action planning retreat where 12 pwd including NADP executives did the follow up from strategic planning developing 5 year action plan for the PNG ADP.

4. 9-11 July – Chairperson attended National Board for Disable Persons (NADP) in Lae Morobe Province
